Conservative MP Greg McLean calls Bill C-5 a temporary work-around of existing laws and says Conservative amendments improved it

In a post on his MP website titled "Bill C-5: The One Canadian Economy Act" (published 13 August 2025, according to the page's metadata), Calgary Conservative MP Greg McLean described C-5 as "a bill designed to temporarily – for five years – work around the legislation these Liberals have created over the past several years". He wrote that Conservatives "supported the progress of Bill C-5 through Parliament", that several Conservative amendments were adopted at committee and third reading, and that "We improved the legislation." He argued the underlying laws, such as the Impact Assessment Act, should be fixed instead, and proposed judging the bill by its results at the end of 2026.
