St-Pierre Plamondon: a PQ government would not tear up the Churchill Falls deal if it is good, but would check every detail

Speaking in Rivière-du-Loup, the PQ leader said tearing up the agreement was 'not my intention' and that 'as long as the agreement is good, we have no interest in tearing it up for the sake of it', but that a PQ government would check every detail to make sure Quebec's interest was served (quotes translated from French). He had earlier said Premier Fréchette lacked the 'legitimacy' to sign the deal so close to an election, and in 2024 he called Quebec's efforts to settle the dispute 'humiliating'. Fréchette has said only a re-elected CAQ government can see the final agreement through.

When people heard about it

The public does not always learn of an event when it happens: some come out later, and old ones can become news again because of something newer.
