Ontario and Marten Falls First Nation break ground on the Marten Falls Community Access Road to the Ring of Fire

Premier Doug Ford and Marten Falls First Nation Chief Bruce Achneepineskum marked the start of construction on the Marten Falls Community Access Road on 31 August 2026. Ontario said the 184 km all-season road, with 35 bridges and culverts, would connect the community to the provincial highway network for the first time and is scheduled to open by November 2031, and that crews would start by clearing trees, setting up a work camp and opening access to aggregate sites. CBC News reported that the federal government issued a notice setting legally binding conditions for the project the same day, that Ontario had signed $39.5 million agreements with both Marten Falls and Webequie First Nations, and that Marten Falls had signed a memorandum of understanding with Hatch as its engineering and project management partner and an agreement with Bird Construction to build the road.
