EIG's MidOcean Energy completes its purchase of 20% of the partnership holding Petronas's 25% of LNG Canada (~5% effective)
MidOcean also bought 20% of Petronas's North Montney upstream joint venture (EIG). MidOcean is an LNG company formed and managed by EIG, a US investment firm; Aramco agreed in 2023 to buy a US$500 million minority stake in it, so the buyer is US-managed but not wholly US-owned.

Claims that rest on this event
How it bears on the outcome
| Explanation | Fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| O0 No meaningful speed-up | Neutral weak | A small indirect stake purchase in an operating plant does not change build-out speed. |
| O1 Faster, but the extra output goes mostly elsewhere | Neutral weak | The ownership change says nothing new about destinations. |
| O2 Faster, and more volume reaches the US (this level or higher) | Neutral weak | The ownership change says nothing about volumes to the US. |
| O3 Locked-in preferential terms for the US | Neutral weak | About 5% effective, held by a US-managed but partly Saudi-owned firm, in a plant exporting to Asia: too small and indirect to signal US preference. |
