Coastal GasLink pipeline
A 670-kilometre natural gas pipeline from northeastern British Columbia to the LNG Canada plant at Kitimat, delivering about 2.1 Bcf/d; owned by Coastal GasLink Pipeline Limited Partnership and operated by TC Energy, which holds 35% (TC Energy release, Sept. 29, 2026; TC Energy 2024 Annual Information Form). Wet'suwet'en hereditary chiefs have opposed the route across their territory; the BC Supreme Court granted the company an interlocutory injunction on Dec. 31, 2019. On Sept. 29, 2026 TC Energy said Phase 2, which adds compressor stations to nearly double capacity, will proceed after LNG Canada's Phase 2 investment decision, with construction from early 2027 and service in the early 2030s (TC Energy release). The pipeline reached mechanical completion in 2023; on Nov. 18, 2024 the partnership signed a commercial agreement with LNG Canada and its participants that declared it commercially in service, with tolls retroactive to Oct. 1, 2024 (TC Energy 2024 financial statements, note 7).
