Oil Sands Magazine: record 4.8 mb/d western crude output in Q4 2026; egress tight again by end-2028
Oil Sands Magazine's pipeline capacity review forecasts record Western Canadian crude production of about 4.8 million b/d in Q4 2026, with the six export lines running near full (about 150 kb/d spare, about 80 kb/d by rail), and egress constrained again by the end of 2028 at 2.5% a year of supply growth. Scale: the about 2.03 mb/d of planned egress additions equal about +42% of current production (2.03 / 4.8, our derivation, phased over 2026-2034).

Claims that rest on this event
- If everything planned is built, Canada's oil export pipeline capacity grows about 1.4 times (from 5.02 to 7.05 million barrels a day, our own sum of the capacities of existing and planned pipelines), and the share that reaches the coast rises from about 12.5% to about 27%. That is an upper bound, because some coast oil goes to US West Coast refineries. The biggest coast addition, the West Coast pipeline (1 million barrels a day), would come around 2032-34.
Oil Sands Magazine forecasts record western crude output of about 4.8 million barrels a day in late 2026, with the export lines nearly full and space tight again by the end of 2028: the planned capacity answers a real need.
