Labrador Trough corridor referred to the Major Projects Office
On 17 August 2026, the day Hydro-Québec and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro signed their Churchill Falls cooperation agreement, Ottawa referred the Labrador Trough Clean Power, Critical Minerals and Infrastructure Corridor to the Major Projects Office as a transformative strategy. The corridor covers a mining belt of about 1,100 km across Quebec and Labrador that holds most of Canada's high-purity iron ore, connected to world markets through the Port of Sept-Îles (Major Projects Office).
