Grays Bay Road and Port referred to the Major Projects Office
Ottawa referred the Grays Bay Road and Port to the Major Projects Office on 12 March 2026: a proposed all-season road of about 230 km from the Nunavut border to a deep-water port and airfield on the Arctic Ocean, to create export links for critical minerals from the West Kitikmeot region. The port and airstrip have dual-use (civilian and military) potential, subject to assessment by National Defence. The proponent is West Kitikmeot Resources Corporation, a partnership of the Kitikmeot Inuit Association and private investors (Major Projects Office).
