Manawan denounces Quebec's authorization of the Matawinie mine as 'a step backward for reconciliation'
Quebec authorized the Matawinie open-pit mine by a decree dated Jan. 20, 2021, published on Feb. 10. Vice-Chief Sipi Flamand said the community had not been told beforehand, and the council said the government gave its approval despite the lack of social acceptability in Manawan (Radio-Canada, Feb. 16, 2021).
