ClaimTested hypothesis: intent
Part of a thought experiment. This claim belongs to the tested hypotheses about US intent: a deliberately contrarian question (“suppose Washington foresaw and wanted this: what would we expect to see, and do we see it?”) tested alongside rival readings. It is not the author’s belief. How the test works.
In the foresight thought experiment, US resistance to Canada selling elsewhere has stayed at threats and demands. Two threats (a 100% tariff over Canada's China deal, 'very serious tariffs' over closer EU ties) were not carried out, and in the August 2026 talks Canada refused US requests for a right of first refusal on critical minerals and for limits on its other trade deals. The US has taken no step against Asian or European buyers of Canadian crude, LNG or uranium.
