Infrastructure Projects Act (Bill 15 (BC))
British Columbia's Infrastructure Projects Act lets the provincial cabinet designate 'provincially significant' projects, prioritize their permits, order approvals and override local planning rules. It passed third reading on May 28, 2025 on a 46-46 tie broken by the Speaker's casting vote, and received Royal Assent on May 29, 2025. As of September 22, 2026 only section 2 was in force; sections 1 and 3 to 47, including the designation and fast-track powers, need a cabinet regulation to take effect. The government said pipelines and LNG facilities would be excluded from designation, but that exclusion is not in the Act: the minister said it would come in the definitions set after the bill became law.
