Eskay Creek gold-silver mine (Skeena Gold and Silver)

Reopening of the former Eskay Creek underground gold-silver mine near Stewart, in Tahltan territory, by a subsidiary of Skeena Gold and Silver. After the Tahltan Central Government gave notice of its consent under the first consent-based decision-making agreement made under section 7 of BC's Declaration Act, the Province issued the environmental assessment certificate on Jan. 26, 2026 with 38 binding conditions, and the Mines Act permit followed on Jan. 27. BC put projected capital spending at C$713 million, with about 1,000 jobs at peak construction and more than 770 in operations (BC releases, Jan. 26-27, 2026).
