Pond Inlet's Mittimatalik Hunters and Trappers Organization opposes Mary River Phase 2 at the review board hearing: 'Our cultures and traditions are not for sale'
On the final day of the Nunavut Impact Review Board hearing, the organization's chair, Enookie Inuarak, said 'Our cultures and traditions are not for sale', that hunters and Pond Inlet residents are 'exhausted by constantly having to give evidence of impacts', and asked why Inuit should approve Phase 2 before Baffinland addresses the impacts of the current mine. Representatives of six of the seven affected communities expressed solidarity with Pond Inlet, which opposes the project (Nunatsiaq News, Nov. 6, 2021).
